Ultra Early Sativa

UELsativa x (UELsativa x UELbrother)

The UEL (Ultra Early Love) is a remarkable outdoor variety. She has things plenty that other outdoor varieties lack. Number one: keeping loud terps and smells as dried bud. Next to that she is a gorgeous plant, can make compact buds, the effect lingers long and she is so light sensitive that most pheno’s finish end of September-first week of October here @52N.

She was shared with me to repro in 2016. This was the beginning of our love story. Having Colombian ancestors made her especially interesting to me. I was still on my big outdoor sativa quest and though I might have found my holy grail in the excitement.

But although the UEL was a leap above the rest in growers’ qualities, I had to temper my excitement because the high indeed had sativa influence but that initial sativa wave shifts quite quickly to an introverted high type.

Since 2016 I have grown a lot of UELs each season. In 2018 I noticed a very thin leaved individual when growing out the seeds of the seedmom with my favorite active high type. Luckily, I immediately had the reflex to take clones of her because next to having really thin leaves, she was also the quickest of the bunch. I called her UELsativa (giving names is not my big strength) and she is with me since. It has not been an easy relationship. She is stubborn and will flower on 24/0 if her roots don’t have ample space. I have been constantly recloning and reviving her for 4 years now. Why? Because the thin leaves were indeed a marker for the Colombian high type. She smokes way better than all the other UELs I tried. If you are used to smoking indica’s or hybrids, you will call this a sativa high. Personally I am very picky to my high types and I class it as: “Great high but still too much afterhigh. I’d rather smoke crosses with her”.

That’s why I wanted to lock in as much of this special effect as possible in seed form. It took my 2 years to self her and after that I wanted her in male/female seed too. So I sprouted a bunch of seeds out of which she emerged. Selected 2 males. This season I grew a bunch of those seeds and selected 4 males. Which pollinated the clone and a bunch of her S1’s. The S1’s still show some variance, but not a whole lot. Which made me conclude that I was moving forward in stabilizing the high type of the mom. This does not mean that no selection is necessary anymore, but I am confident that you will find at least one female with the special high in every pack.

Finally ready to share with the world!
In order to distinguish her between the UELs that have that introspective high type I decided I did enough work to change her name a bit, still keeping enough reference to her past: Ultra Early Sativa.

Praise to all the people before me: Archangel, GrowHoe, Harold, Reeferman.

After highlighting her strengths, it’s good to know her weaknesses as well: she often gets leaf septoria, can get a bit of mildew, not totally resistant against botrytis either. But I’ve always been able to harvest most of the plant.

The terps are a dream if you like lemon, it oozes with lemon! The sativa selection has mostly that fresh and tasty lemony with those chemical notes pushed towards the back.

After the little history I would very much like to look at the future too. This is just the beginning! The real strength of this line lies in its ability to cross so well. She is so light sensitive that I was already able to finish these crosses outdoors @52N: UES x Original Haze F2, UES x Punto Rojo F1, UES x (UES x Madagascar).

With all these crosses you need to grow enough to be able to select the ones with the best high type. Definitely not all plants were good, but some were just phenomenal!

Are you ready to join me in this grand quest to find that real sativa magic on an outdoor finishing frame?
